Still from yesterday’s GlobalPost shoot in Jacarezinho’s Cracolândia in Rio de Janeiro. This guy’s got a rough life, but remarkably good hair.

Users from various socioeconomic backgrounds (truly surprised by the number of middle-aged, well-dressed women) gather in Jacarezinho, one of Rio’s last refuges for the free trade and use of highly illegal substances like crack and cocaine.

And by trade, I mean a veritable bazaar. One alley not far from the main street hosts a series of tables covered in small pieces of folded paper, which contain every illegal recreational substance available in Rio. Behind the tables stand men hawking their wares. “Crack, cinco reais! Pó, dez!” That’s one crack rock for $3. A hit of cocaine for $6.
